Just a baby at 16 months saved!

My story is an interesting one as it kind of started in 1987 on a high school trip. The school I was going to was going on a joint field trip with another high school from a different town. Gillam students showed up one day and spent the night in a class room in our school. The next day our bus load of kids and their's was loading up to head West to see a Shakespeare play in Regina. Our bus was overfilled and so our chaperone said that two of us had to travel with the Gillam students. I volunteered and my bud, Cory tagged along. When I got on the other bus the first thing I noticed was a very cute blonde hair green eyed gal. The only two seats were behind her and her friend, Leah. Her name is Bambi(yes its her real name), her and I became friends, she said the first thing she noticed was my height at 6'6" since she is 6'. We became good friends on that trip and wrote letters back and forth for a year or so but lost touch because Gillam was so far away from Cranberry Portage.

Fast forward to May Long weekend 2007, I was lost and living a pretty bad life. I was just about to delete a profile off of a dating site after breaking up with another woman that I had met on there. I was just about to click "delete profile" when I got an IM from a woman "Hi, I'm curious about something!". I remember feeling put out but I looked at the picture and thought "Ok pretty woman is curious about something. When she asked "Is your name Kevin?" I thought o.k. beautiful woman knows my name. I looked at the picture and something clicked... I asked "Does the name Bambi mean anything to you?" She said yes, it was her! A week later we planned to meet for coffee.

I went to meet her in Winnipeg for coffee not sure what to expect and what I got was absolutely the last thing I ever thought I would. We met and caught up on where our lives went after school and where we'd been. Then she started talking about God and how He had affected her life after 7.5 years of being saved. Now I don't know if you can picture this but I was one of those guys that was taught that "real men don't cry", mom taught me that and told me that its a sign of weakness. Well there I was standing in the parking lot saying good-bye to her with tears in my eyes. I told her that, for the first time in my life, I was starting to believe! She hugged me and said "I know!" and then she said "Its ok to cry, the tears heal!"

I was working in Lac du Bonnet, MB so I had to drive out to dad's, where I was staying. While I drove that 90 minutes I started talking out loud asking myself what words I would use. I mean how do you say it, or ask or request. After 45 minutes of driving I finally just said "Please God, come into my life and make me a better man in Your eyes!" I drove another 15 minutes and asked out loud "Lord, why... why after 20 years have you brought this woman back into my life?" And I heard a voice... "BECAUSE YOU NEEDED GUIDANCE!" Well I was an instant believer, I had to pull over on the side of the road, it was such an overwhelming experience for me that I was crying so much I couldn't see the road.

It's been an exciting journey so far, I got baptized last year on July 22, 2007 and she was there for it. I've gotten involved in my church, The Winnipeg Center Vineyard. I'm also involved with Promise Keepers and am learning Theophostic Prayer Healing which I am an advocate of.

Hi Kevin: It is amazing how God works in our life. I too found forgiveness after too long. But what I learned is it is never too late. God wants us, all we have to do is accept him through Jesus. Stay strong on this journey. You have upset Satan, and he will seek to weaken you...don't let him. Glad to call you brother.
